What are the Documents required to File a Bike Insurance Claim

The Main Purpose of Bike Insurance is to safeguard yourself from any unfortunate events like accidents apart from legal liability of holding it. So, now you’ve been in an accident, what is the procedure to raise a claim? The first step is to inform the insurance provider about the mishap. And on top of this, you will have to submit the relevant documents that would be needed to compensate for the expenses.

Claim Settlement Ways

Talking about claim settlement, there are two ways that the insurance companies settle the claim requests,

Cashless ClaimIf the bike is repaired in a network garage in the aftermath of an accident, then a cashless claim comes into the picture. Since the insurance company has tie up with the garage directly, the payment is directly made to the company

Reimbursement Claim Settlement – It is the way where you will spend out of your own pocket for repairs and later, the insurance company will reimburse it once you place a claim request. The advantage here is unlike cashless claims, where you have to repair your vehicle in a network garage, you can get your bike repaired at any garage of your convenience.

Documents required for Raising a Claim

Following is the lost of scenarios given where you can register a claim,

For Accidental Damage
  • Your active insurance policy
  • Copy of RC Book, tax (original needs to be submitted at the time of verification)
  • FIR Copy
  • Driving License of the person
  • Time, date, and location of the accident
  • Statement and contact details of eye-witness
  • Manufacturing and model number of your two wheeler
  • Garage name and detailed bill if the bike is repaired  in a non-network garage
For Bike Theft
  • Your active insurance policy
  • Copy of RC Book, tax (original needs to be submitted at the time of verification)
  • FIR Copy
  • Driving License of the person
  • Time, date, and location of the accident
  • Statement and contact details of eye-witness
  • Manufacturing and model number of your two wheeler
  • Garage name and detailed bill if the bike is repaired  in a non-network garage
For third party claims
  • Duly filled claim form
  • FIR Copy
  • Policy Document
  • DL Copy
  • Registration Certificate of the bike

How to File a Bike Insurance claim?

Third Party Claim
  • Inform police and the insurance department immediately after the accident. Also take a photograph of the damaged part of your vehicle in the accident area. 
  • If you are victim, collect the insurance details of the other party and move to file a third party claim
  • Insurer will forward your claim to Motor Accident Claims Tribunal Court
  • After verifying the case, the tribunal court will finalise the amount to be paid as compensation
Own Damage
  • Inform the insurer immediately after the accident
  • In the event of accident file an FIR
  • The insurer will appoint a surveyor to investigate the case and examine the damages. 
  • After the surveyor’s report is approved, then the insurer will send your damaged vehicle to the network garage
  • Repair will be directly settled in the event of network garage
  • For non-network garages, you can receive a claim based on the terms and conditions of the policy
Theft Claim
  • Inform the police and insurer immediately about the accident
  • Submit the documents mentioned above along with the keys
  • Obtain non-traceable certificate  if the police is unable to locate the vehicle within a time frame
  • After checking the validity of your claim, the insurer will compensate for the total loss upto the IDV agreed upon during  the policy’s purchase time.
