What is a PAN Card?

Permanent Account Number (PAN) is a unique identification number issued by the Government of India to Indian Tax Payers. It is issued by the IT department.

A Pan Card is a Alphanumeric code that groups an individuals IT Transaction, tax payments, TDS credit, and other transactions.

PAN is very important for the financial health of a country. Since, it is linked to an individual, it can be used a proof for financial transactions. By linking financial transactions to PAN, the government is able to prevent tax evasion. PAN plays an important role in preventing money laundering.

In order to facililate PAN processing, government has two prominent portals - NSDL and UTIITSL. Applicants can apply for PAN card at any of these centers and get them approved within a week.

Once the PAN no is allotted, the applicants are notified through Email and SMS. With their PAN number, they can download the e-pan version from these portals until the hard copy reaches the address.

Here are the steps in downloading the e-PAN card

Downloading from NSDL

  1. Visit the link https://www.onlineservices.nsdl.com/paam/requestAndDownloadEPAN.html
  2. There are two options that you can see - Acknowledgment number and PAN no
  3. Enter the PAN no in the PAN option
  4. Enter your Aadhar No, DOB, and GSTN (Optional)
  5. Select the acceptance checkbox, complete the captcha and click on submit
  6. The PDf version of your PAN card will appear on the screen and you download it
  7. You can also use the acknowledgement number sent to download your e-PAN
  8. Follow the same process as above and you can download the same
  9. The downloaded e-PAN card will be password protected. The user must enter their DOB as the password in order to access

Downloading e-PAN through UTIITSL Portal

  1. Click the link https://www.pan.utiitsl.com/PAN_ONLINE/ePANCard
  2. Enter the PAN card number and Date of Birth
  3. Enter the captcha and hit submit
  4. A download link will be sent to user’s registered number via SMS or email
  5. By clicking on that link, you can obtain their e-PAN
  6. If the user’s mobile number and email are not registered, the user should do first by submitting a correction form before using e-PAN facility
  7. Users will be able to download e-PAN three times

Who can download these e-PAN?

  1. This facility was developed to PAN holders whose application was processed through NSDL or UTIIISL
  2. The download option is available three times for applications submitted to either of portals and PAN no alloted by ITR in the last 30 days
  3. If the data exceeds 30 days, then the user must pay the applicable download charges

How can I update PAN Card information?

  1. User must visit NSDL or UTIITSL portal and select Update PAN section
  2. Choose select and update the correction
  3. A Copy of address proof and identify proof document are required to complete the requirement
